GPNPN Activities

Jennifer Jewell, creator of the Cultivating Place podcast, asks her guests a classic question, “[What] grew you into the human for whom your work would be a calling?”  Those of us who have enjoyed the privilege of an experiential education know its power in shaping who we are.  The many plant-related activities of the GPNPN may afford others the opportunity to grow into a person who better sees the many facets of life on earth.

Propagating and selling climate-adapted and locally-sourced California native plants.  Native plants is our conduit for educating the community about conserving and protecting our natural resources.

Demonstration Gardens

The Matson-Mowder-Howe Celebration Garden at the Carter House in Caldwell Park is maintained by volunteers.  We coordinate the volunteers and gardening about four to six times per year.  If you would like to volunteer, please contact us, and we will give you a heads-up.

Trail Steward Volunteer
- Whiskeytown NRA

To provide a clean, safe hiking experience for the visitors and provide volunteers the opportunity to make a difference in the park ecologically and physically.

Farmer's Market Booth

GPNPN will have a booth at the Redding Saturday Farmer's Market during weeks in the fall and spring.  We will have some featured plants and, of course, sowing native plants information:)

Restoration

Ghost Pine Native Plant Nursery volunteers have teamed up with volunteers from Shasta Environmental Alliance to help restore oak woodlands post wildfires and neglect.  GPNPN plans to eventually supply local restoration projects with locally sourced native plant propagules.

CNPS Garden Ambassador
- a future ambition

The landscape/garden at GPNPN was the site of a 2015 Shasta California Native Plant Society Garden Tour.  The garden includes several acres and is a work in progress that exemplifies the mutual benefit relationship between gardener and Nature.

Education

Workshops, talks, field trips, and blogs among other education avenues:  Topics include native plant gardening, sustainability, irrigation, rainwater harvesting, hügelkultur, basic gardening, lawn replacement...

Natural Resources in the Spotlight

Water, air, sunlight, soil, plants, and wildlife deserve our undivided attention.

Social media is key.  Stay tuned.

Field Trips
- a future ambition

The goal is to lead field trips that have a naturalist emphasis, the intersection of all  parts that make up our amazing ecosystems - of course  underscoring native plants.
