CALIFORNIA STATE GRASS

Calscape – “Purple Needlegrasss is California's most widespread native grass. It was named California's State Grass in 2004.” A bunchgrass that has showy purple seed heads in spring and deep roots that can penetrate and break up soil as far down as 10 to 20 feet. The roots can sequester as much carbon as a tree.
