One of my wife's favorite plant fragrances.

Very important bird habitat plant in its natural range. Also attracts native bees and many butterfly species.

Native to southern California but does great in Redding. Tough plant that tolerates some garden water, if excellent drainage, and infrequent summer irrigation. Native in harsh conditions.

Spring pale yellow flowers followed by red drupes (berries) with a finale of super fall colors. The leaf has three leaflets, but the fragrant sumac terminal leaflet is sessile whereas it has a petiole on poison oak, among other differences:)

A subshrub that takes little but offers so, so much... bliss;)

White sage is being poached and unsustainably harvested from its natural habitat in southern and Baja California. "Saging the World" is a current California Native Plant Society project to save this remarkable native plant. White sage is the rare plant that has tremendous aesthetic, ecological, and cultural value.

Winnifred Gilman Cleveland Sage has a dazzling deep blue flower not often found in the garden. Some say it smells like the wild west, whatever that scent is. A UC Davis Arboretum All-Stars plant! This extremely showy and fragrant sage has red flowering stems accented with intensely purple/blue flowers.

The sweet sent of a mass of spring snowdrop flowers wafts past us long before visual appreciation.
